Love Running is an incredible initiative that helps ordinary people do extraordinary things. It’s about engaging with our communities, making a difference to people’s lives, and doing ourselves some good while we’re at it.
Love Running started in 2009 at Woodlands Church, Bristol in the South West of England. The vision was to enter 50 ordinary people from the church - and their friends - into the city 10k road race to raise money for charity. In the end, 300 people signed up raising over £70,000.
The next year both figures doubled and Love Running has since spread across the United Kingdom and overseas to South Africa and Australia.
It varies in practice from place to place, but the ethos is always the same - get fit, get friends, change the world.
This is our fourth edition of Love Running in Cardiff. In the previous three editions we have raised more than £30,000 for the poor, the oppressed and the needy overseas and in South Wales.
As a group of people from churches across Cardiff and the surrounding area, along with friends, family and work colleagues we will be running the Cardiff 10k on September 11th 2016, all so we can see love running to where it’s needed the most.
This year we aim to have more than 50 runners taking part, our largest entry yet. We are also aiming to raise at least another £10,000 as a group.
To find out more about the causes we are supporting and what Love Running is all about please look around our website. You can also come along to one of our launch seminars in June where we will tell you all you need to know about the causes we are supporting, how to train for a 10k and how to fundraise - as well as meeting others who will be taking part. This year we are running two launch seminars:
- Tuesday 7th June, 7:30pm at The Wenvoe Arms, Old Port Road, Wenvoe CF5 6AN
- Saturday 18th June, 10am at Woodville Christian Centre, Crwys Road, Cardiff CF24 4ND
